D.O.R.C. Rides 2006

Here's what we rode in 2006...

Sunday December 31th Ride:
Hartwood Acres - 1:00 PM
Meet at the parking lot on Middle Road (near the school) for a daytime ride.

Wednesday December 27th Ride:
Bavington State Game Lands - 7:00 PM
Meet at Haul Road parking lot with fully charged lights at 7:00 PM or Thick Bikes at 6:15 PM. We are going to try and recreate the really fun ride that Justin and Eric took us on last month.

Wednesday December 20th Ride:
Frick Park - 7:00 PM
I will be away for the holidays but everyone else can meet at the tennis court parking lot on Braddock Avenue with fully charged lights or meet Larry at Thick Bikes at 6:20 PM. If you are running late call Larry at (412) 867-6739.

Sunday December 17th Ride:
Road - 11:00 AM
Carol is doing an urban/MTB ride starting at Thick Bikes. You should ride your MTB. The route is going to be urban then Schenley Park and then over to Frick Park to finish up.

Saturday December 16th Ride:
North Park - 2:00
Ride then crash the Jet Messenger party with Stick Boy. Meet at Lt. J. C. Stone parking lot at 2:00 PM or at Thick Bikes at 1:00 PM. We will ride the awesome route that Dave Brunger showed us ten days ago.

Wednesday December 13th Ride:
South Park - 7:00 PM
Meet at Thick at 6:20 PM or at the large parking lot on Corregan Drive at 7:00 PM. Larry said he misses the ole South Park and that is good enough reason to have a ride there. Lights are required.

Sunday December 10th Ride:
Moraine State Park - ??? O'Clock
Rumor has it that Carol and Larry are going to go to Moraine to ride the MTB loop with Dan Wilson.

Saturday December 9th:
Frick Park - 3:30 PM
We will be flagging the proposed "skills park trail" in the concrete dump area until that is done and the we will be riding a bit as it gets dark. If you would like to see where the trail may go look for the day-glow orange ribbons wrapped around trees leading down from the top area where the bleachers are.

Wednesday December 6th Ride:
North Park - 6:00 PM
Meet at Thick at 5:20 PM or at J.C. Stone Field at 6:00 PM. Dave Brungeman has a weekly North Park ride going and has graciously promised to show us DORCs the good stuff that we missed last time we floundered around there. It should be a learning experience. If you don't feel like trying to find the meeting spot yourself we should be leaving Thick Bikes at 5:20 PM and you can get a ride or convoy with us. Of course lights will be required.

Sunday December 3rd Ride:
Punk Bike Enduro Stage Race - 11:00 AM
Competitive and fun-loving DORCs will be participating in the 17th annual Punk Bike Enduro sponsored by Dirt Rag. We will have a support vehicle too. Following the event will be a pot-luck dinner. Bring: clothes for cold weather, clothes for afterwards, food to eat and share for dinner, and a cup to drink free beer with during the ride. It should be a fun party on wheels so come out and ride. Colin, our resident Tech DORC and Art School Fag, has designed a T-Shirt for this event which you can see a preview of here.

Saturday December 2nd Ride:
Punk Bike Trail Maintenance - 10:00 AM
This will be the final pass through the route of the race course to mark it and make sure it is passable. Meet at Dirt Rag headquarters which is located on Saxonburg Blvd. or meet at Thick Bikes (9:20 AM) for a ride out that way.

Wednesday November 29th Ride:
Bavington State Game Lands - 7:00 PM
Meet at Thick at 6:20 PM or at Bavington at 7:00 PM. To get to Bavington drive out on 279 in the direction of the airport. Take the "22/30 West - Weirton" exit and follow that until you reach the Bavington exit. Get off there and at the end of the exit ramp turn right. After a very short distance the road you are on will end at a "T" shaped intersection. Turn left and follow this road. Eventually you will see a large building on the left with big letters that spell "KNOWLTON". Turn right just after this building at the reflective green sign that says "State Game Lands". Follow this dirt road for about eight tenths of a mile until you see the pull-off area to the left. If there are any cars there that should be us. If you don't feel like trying to find the meeting spot yourself we should be leaving Thick Bikes at 6:20 PM and you can get a ride or convoy with us. Lights required.

Sunday November 26th Ride:
Bavington State Game Lands ?
Sunday we were going to help with PORCs Pedal and Prune trail maintenance at Bavington but then at the last minute we found out that it was also the day of the Punk Bike Enduro trail maintenance. I was hoping that at least a few people would go to help at Bavington but as it turned out only two of us got going that morning and they went to help Dirt Rag out for the Punk Bike. Kinda lame - I know. As it tuned out though the slow starting DORCs did end up doing three separate rides on Sunday. There was a small beginner ride that afternoon in South Park and a Frick Park night ride.

Wednesday November 22nd Rides:
#1. Mount Gretna - 4:00 PM
Thanksgiving ride will meet at the Governor Dick trail head for a ride near Carol Clemen's mom's house. Afterwards all DORCs are invited to stay over in Mount Gretna and have Thanksgiving Dinner the next day.

#2. Frick Park - 7:00 PM
Alternate ride for those who will not be making the three and a half hour drive to Mount Gretna today. Meet Jeff G. at the parking lot on Braddock near the tennis courts. Lights required.

Sunday November 19th Ride:
Hartwood Acres - 12:00 Noon
Meet at the Mansion parking lot off of Saxonburg Blvd. No lights required.

Wednesday November 15th Ride:
North Park - 7:00 PM
D.O.R.C. goes to North Park for the first time and its at night. Make like you're going to Hartwoood, taking Rt 28 to Rt 8 North (towards Butler). Stay on Rt 8 for several miles, then go left on Wildwood Rd (there will be signs for North Park). After a few miles Wildwood Rd goes into North Park. When you reach the intersection of Babcock Blvd, stay straight (the road now becomes Ingomar) and there is a parking lot 50 feet ahead on the left. Park there. Look for bikes. Etc.

Sunday November 12th Ride:
Ray's MTB - Meet at 7:45 AM - Arrive at Ray's 10:30 AM
Massive exodus to Cleveland to ride Ray's all day. If you have not been there you need to go. Even if you were there last year you should check it out because they have added more square footage and new stuff. The place is awesome. There is fun riding for EVERY type and level of mountain biker. We will meet at Thick Bikes at 7:45 AM to leave by 8:00 AM sharp. You will probably be able to get a ride there if you need one. Donations for gas money will be accepted. The entrance fee is normally $18 for the day but I talked to Ray and he is going to give us a discount for our group. When you check in mention that you are with the D.O.R.C. group and you will get in for $14. Be sure to thank Ray for this generous discount when you see him. Check out raysmtb.com for more info and pictures.

Wednesday November 8th Ride:
Frick Park - 7:00 PM
Meet at the parking lot on braddock near the tennis courts. Bring lights.

Sunday November 4th Ride:
Hartwood Acres - 2:00 PM
After the dig session at Hartwood there will be a ride. Meet at the mansion parking lot off of Saxonburg Blvd. Hartwood cannot be ridden after dark so take advantage of this day ride to cruise some fun trails.

Wednesday November 1st Ride:
Bavington State Game Lands - 7:00 PM
Our first official Bavington ride will also be our first night ride there. Don't worry though, we have scouted a fairly easy to follow set of loops that will pass our parked vehicles twice. Lights will be necessary as daylight savings is now a thing of the past and it should be very dark.

Wednesday October 25th Ride:
Frick Park - 7:00 PM
Obviously this is a night ride at our new regular time - lights are mandatory. Meet at the parking lot on Braddock near the tennis courts. Be there. Ride rating: 2-Fa-Q

Sunday October 22nd Ride:
Frick Park - 2:00 PM
After the I.M.B.A. trail maintenance session in Frick we are going to have a ride. It may be separate from the I.M.B.A. ride - not sure yet.

Wednesday October 18th Ride:
South Park - 7:00 PM
Notice the meeting time is later. This is because we are now doing night rides and it doesn't matter what time we start because it will be dark anyway. Also the later start time will allow people to get out of work and have a little cushion to get to the meeting spot on time. I think we will meet at the large parking lot on Corregan Drive near the go-kart track. You will need lights to do this ride. If you are looking to buy one contact me. Also contact me just so I can add your E-mail address to the list of dorcs. Don't worry about constant E-mails from D.O.R.C. - I'll reserve them for special occaisions.

Wednesday October 11th Ride:
Frick Park - 5:30 PM
We went to Frick again - sorry I didn't update but I was away and really busy. I'll try to do better in the future.

Wednesday October 4th Ride:
Frick Park - 5:30 PM
Back to our roots - literally. Meet at the parking lot on Braddock near the tennis courts 5:30PM or meet at Thick Bikes at 5:00PM if you would like a ride to Frick Park from the South Side. If you have lights bring them - we are going to try and get done before dark but you know how that goes.

Wednesday September 27th Ride:
South Park - 5:30 PM
Awww... South Park again!? Yep, Al and Jen didn't make it to the Sept. 20th ride so those D.O.R.C.s are going to South Park again. Meet at the big parking lot on Corregan Drive near the Go-Cart track 6:00PM or meet at Thick Bikes at 5:30PM if you would like a ride to South Park. If you have lights bring them.

Wednesday September 20th Ride:
South Park - 5:30 PM
We have decided to go to South Park again as we found a bunch of new trails and would like to explore them some more. Also we would like to leave a half hour earlier so we can have a few minutes more of ride time. So meet at the big parking lot on Corregan Drive near the Go-Cart track 5:30PM or meet at Thick Bikes at 5:00PM or just before so we can leave at 5. If you have lights bring them.

Wednesday September 13th Ride:
Hartwood Acres - 6:00 PM
Meet at the Parking lot near the school on Middle Road at 6:00 PM. If you would like a ride to Hartwood meet at Thick Bikes around 5:20 PM - We try and leave at 5:30 sharp! If you have lights bring 'em because it is getting dark earlier and earlier.

Sunday September 10th Ride/BBQ/Ride:
South Park - 11:00 AM
Fast ride starts from Picnic area at 11:00 AM.
Picnic and BBQ starts at 1:30 PM
Mellow ride starts form picnic area at 4:00 PM.
Call Jen (412) 320-1150 or Chris (412) 390-3590 for more info or if you can't find the picnic spot. The pavillion is called "Baron" and it is #6 on the map.
DORC Logo

Notes:
Our Logo
The D.O.R.C. logo above was designed by Dirt Rag's own Jeff Guerrero.

Punk Bike
DORCs made their mark on the Punk Bike with Carol sweeping the women, Nichole placing sixth and yours truly sharing second in the men's class (Brungeman also got second). Check out Dirt Rag Coverage for official results. Check out the PORC forum for coments and links to photo galleries.

Stickers
Represent! Show the world that you are a DORC! We now have fairly large (3.75" by 4.25") vinyl stickers with the official DORC logo(above) on them. Pick up a few at any of our rides or at Thick Bikes.

New Domains
Tech D.O.R.C. Colin has acquired two domain names for us. dorc-pittsburgh.com and dorc-pgh.com are now ours (soon we will rule the world). Take note.

Frick Park Skills Trail
Carol and I have marked a proposed trail route starting at the upper plateau near the bleachers. Feel free to walk the route and make comments through an E-mail to me. If you would like to add your name to the list of people we can call on to help when the time comes to do some real work please send me an E-mail describing what you would like to do and I'll compile the list.

D.O.R.C. Motto
How about "The other, other white meat"?

Join I.M.B.A.
The D.O.R.C. club is a member of I.M.B.A. and you should be too. I.M.B.A. does great things for mountain biking and needs your support. Check out their website imba.com for more info.

P.T.A.G.
If you are ride a mountain bike anywhere near Pittsbugh you owe something to this group. P.T.A.G. is basically our local version of I.M.B.A. and has helped to maintain/improve/build many trails in our area.
